Need tools you can use to analyze your questions?

Looking for questioning frameworks?
  • Bloom's Taxonomy
    • ​​​Bloom’s is a great place to start if you are new to thinking about your questioning practice. This is just one of the many charts out there that summarize Bloom’s. 
  • Costa's Levels of Thinking and Questioning
    • ​If you are not familiar with Costa’s, here is a little video that explains what it is. Like Bloom’s there are also charts out there that can get you started identifying different levels of thinking and questioning.
  • ​5 E's of Science Instruction
    • ​The 5E model of inquiry is another way to think about science instruction. This resource is heavily aligned with NGSS and offers simple tools to help think about talk moves in the classroom.
  • Understanding By Design: Essential Questions
    • ​Another great resource, UbD offers a broader more holistic approach to planning lessons and units around big ideas and essential questions.

  • Quality Questioning: Research-Based Practices to Engage Every Learner by Jackie Acree Walsh and Beth Dankert Sattes
    • ​Quality Questioning is a great resource for questioning. An easy to use book that is a great addition to your professional library. There are great tools included in this book too.  ​
  • 5 Practices for Orchestrating Productive Task-Based Discussions in Science by Jennifer L. Cartier, Margaret S. Smith, Mary Kay Stein, Danielle K. Ross
    • Another great book on classroom talk in science, 5 Practices offers many examples to help illustrate and explain each practice. 
  • Accountable Talk
    • Chock full of information, this FREE resource can be downloaded and used right away. It is a quick resource for everything talk related in the classroom.
